We provide two types of introduction to archery:
Taster Sessions and Full Beginner Courses, details of which may be found below.
Full Beginners Courses
Our Beginners Courses usually consist of a group of 8 to 12 mixed adults and juniors and comprise between three and six two-hour sessions. Summer courses are held outdoors at Creigiau Recreation Ground, winter courses indoors at The Ilan Leisure Centre in Rhydyfelin, while spring and autumn courses are held at a mixture of our outdoor and indoor venues depending upon the weather.
Courses are conducted by Session Coaches fully accredited by Archery GB (the UK governing body), and upon successful completion of the course, participants will be given a certificate of competence which is recognised by any Archery GB affiliated club.
All of the equipment required to complete the course is provided by the club, and participants wishing to continue to membership of Cambria Archers can usually benefit from a further equipment loan period.
Juniors must be over 8 years old, and up to the age of 16 must be accompanied throughout the course by a parent or guardian (who may also be a course member). Coaches are fully DBS checked, and all activities are in accordance with the club’s Safeguarding Policy, which is available to view elsewhere on this website.
Course Dates
There are no pre-set advance dates for the courses. Instead, those interested are asked to make themselves known by contacting the Beginners’ Team at courses.cambriaarchers@hotmail.com with an indication of the number and ages of potential participants. We will then send out a brief questionnaire and keep you informed as the dates of courses begin to be finalised. Courses can fill up quite rapidly, so please make contact as early as possible, even if it is some time before your preferred course time.
Course Cost
The fee for the course is £60 per person, to include the loan of equipment as described above. The fee for additional family members on the same course is reduced to £50.
Taster Sessions
These occasional sessions are designed to provide a first taste of archery to those who are interested in trying the sport in an environment that reflects typical club archery. They differ from the sort of have-a-go events often seen at carnivals and holiday venues in that they concentrate on good fundamental technique, and are taught by fully accredited coaches (rather than general sports instructors).
Taster sessions typically consist of a half-day event, and are conducted in a fun way which seeks to include all participants, and for this reason they are especially appropriate for juniors who may be unsure of how they will take to the sport.
The fee for our Taster Sessions is £15 per person, and for those who go on to join one of our full Beginners Courses we offer a £10 rebate towards that fee.
